Who Do We Think We Are?
What good can possibly come out of such tragic events as the earthquake in Haiti, or World War II? God is able to make great good come out of awful situations. Paul records a promise in Romans 8:28 that all things work together for the good of those that love God. If God has made you a promise He will keep it.
Romans 9:20 – Who are you, a mere human being, to argue with God? Should the thing that was created say to the one who created it, “Why have you made me like this?”
Who are we to question God? We shouldn’t ask ‘why’ so much to the questions we have no answers to. We should ask God what He wants us to do. Greater knowledge of God will come out of this. We can be sure that we know God if we obey His commandments (1 John 2:3).
Job 38:2 – Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorant words?
God is really saying, “Who do you think you are?” He begins to ask Job numerous questions that challenge Job to realize that he should never question God, the creator of the universe.
The God of this universe can do anything He wants at any time He wants and we should never question it (See Isaiah 44:24-28).
Proverbs 21:1 – The king’s heart is like a stream of water directed by the Lord; He guides it wherever He pleases.
God Almighty is in charge.
Why do the righteous suffer? Why do good people have to endure bad things? 1. Galatians 3:13 - Christ suffered for us. He took the wrath of God on our behalf.
2. 1 Peter 2:24, Isaiah 53:5 – Christ bore our sins
3. Philippians 2:7-8 – Jesus emptied Himself
4. Hebrews 2:14-15 – Christ defeated death by suffering death
5. Colossians 2:14-15 – Christ took all our sin and nailed it to the cross
6. Isaiah 53:4 – Christ purchased healing by suffering
7. 1 Peter 3:18 – Christ suffered once for our sins to lead us to God
God would have us to be holy and without fault and to love one another (See Ephesians 1:3-6). Life is not here for our purposes. They are here for His!

Luke 1&2
Matthew 2
Revelation 12:1-6
12:1 Then 1 a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, and with the moon under her feet, and on her head was a crown of twelve stars. 2 12:2 She 3 was pregnant and was screaming in labor pains, struggling 4 to give birth. 12:3 Then 5 another sign appeared in heaven: a huge red dragon that had seven heads and ten horns, and on its heads were seven diadem crowns. 6 12:4 Now 7 the dragon’s 8 tail swept away a third of the stars in heaven and hurled them to the earth. Then 9 the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that he might devour her child as soon as it was born. 12:5 So 10 the woman gave birth to a son, a male child, 11 who is going to rule 12 over all the nations 13 with an iron rod. 14 Her 15 child was suddenly caught up to God and to his throne, 12:6 and she 16 fled into the wilderness 17 where a place had been prepared for her 18 by God, so she could be taken care of 19 for 1,260 days.

Matthew 16:13 - Who do men say the Son of Man is?
Matthew 16:15 - But who do you say I am?
Matthew 16:16-19
And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jonah: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father who is in heaven. 18 And I also say unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. 19 I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.(ASV)

Pastor Phil preaches today on Israel’s temples and how their history relates to church growth.
There’s only one thing that will last; and that is what God builds. Everything else is going to be destroyed and come to an end. Our plans need to be baptized in the Holy Spirit in order for them to come to pass.
Pastor Phil Schoonmaker preaches from 1 Corinthians 13.
What are the bottom line issues in the church? Love is the bottom line. It determines what is Kingdom loss and Kingdom profit.
If you learn only three words in the Christian faith, learn these: I LOVE YOU.
In verse 3 Paul says if you give all you have to the poor but have not love, you gain nothing. The second part says if you surrender your body to the flames but have not love, you gain nothing.
Polycarp died because of his unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. He was burned alive. His life is an inspiration to us. The bottom line of the inspiration is love. Unless everything is motivated by love, we have gained nothing. People all over the world die for their religion. But, are we willing to die for love?
The nature of love is more than deeds. Love is patient. Love is kind. The moment ‘love’ departs from patience or kindness is it no longer ‘love.’ Love is not jealous. Love is always patient, kind, and never jealous. Love doesn’t brag. Love is not puffed up, it is not arrogant. There is no “I’m better than you are” with love. Love is never proud. It does not act unbecomingly. It never does anything to damage the reputation of Jesus Christ. It does not seek its own. It does not rejoice in unrighteousness. It rejoices with the truth.
Love never fails!
This week Pastor Phil teaches from 2 Corintians.
